Dear community, for those who are preparing to play on Nostalrius, here is a guide where to download the game and how to setup. It consists of four basic steps: 1) Download the game (WoW Classic with Patch 1.12.1) 2) Unzip / extract game 3) Set Realmlist 4) Create an account and log in Step 1: Download the game There are different possibilities downloading the game: Recommended: Download WoW from FTP(enUS) (courtesy of Vengence WoW) - Offline Alternative: (courtesy of Vanilla WoW) (untested) Alternative Download WoW from Google Drive (courtesy of Stormreaver - Nostalrius community) - Offline (If you have another game client or a different operating system then windows please read the F.A.Q. At the bottom of this post.) Step 2: Extract the game If you don't have a program for decompression install WinRar ( /. If you have a suitable program installed move to your download directory (e.g.: C: Users anon Downloads), right-click on.rar-file and select 'extract files.' Select path you want your fresh WoW installation to be placed (e.g.

Top Vanilla classic wow private servers list supporting patch 1.12.1. It's the first and the smallest World of Warcraft version to play up to level 60. World of Warcraft Client Patch 1.12 - Drums of War Patch Trailer Cross-Realm Battlegrounds. For the first time in the history of World of Warcraft, you will be able. I was just wondering if anyone knows a source where you can view or even browse VERY old talent trees, PRE 1.12.1. Like patch 1.0 or 1.1.

C: Program Files (x86)) Step 3: Check Realmlist.wtf To tell the WoW installation to connect to Nostalrius, you need to change the ' realmlist.wtf'. Go into the recently created WoW folder, open ' realmlist.wtf' with a text editor and change content of file to: 'set realmlist login.nostalrius.org'.

Please note: This might change until final server release. Please note: If you can't change the content of the ' realmlist.wtf', this is because of some privilege / admin rights hick-up. Just copy the file to your desktop, open and change it, then copy it back, overwriting the old file.

Step 4: Creat an account and log in If you haven't yet created an account not for the forum, but the game:. You should now be good to go. Use your log in credentials to log in and play the game. Optional steps: 1) Delete ' WDB' folder It is recommended that the ' WDB' folder is deleted before launch, because it might contain data that is inconsistent with the server.

Just go into your WoW directory and delete the folder. In the recommended version, there is NO ' WDB' folder at the beginning.

2) Install some add-ons Add-ons are in-game application that might enhance gaming experience by simplifying certain tasks. Since add-ons are depended on the WoW installation, you need add-ons for classic WoW with patch 1.12.1. Some add-ons can be found in thread or (from Classic WoW) and (from Vanilla WoW). I recommend searching the web for add-ons you like and then look if they are contained in those packages. Add-ons must be copied into the 'AddOns' folder within the interface folder of you installation. Please note: If there is no ' AddOns' folder in the ' Interface' folder, just right-click and create one!

Please do not discuss add-ons in this thread! F.A.Q.: 1) Can I have multiple WoW installations?

Yes, you can have as many WoW installations as you want. Also, installation does NOT interfere with Blizzards official installation.

2) Have you tested all the add-ons? 3) Will I get banned on official Blizzard servers if I play on Nostalrius? You might violate some Blizzard agreements (I don't know), but they want the money way to bad to ban you. 4) I already have a game client for 1.12.1, can I use it? If you already have an 1.12.1 client you downloaded to play on Feenix, Vengence, Rebirth or one of the other (not very well scripted) private Vanilla servers you can use it and do not need to download it again. You only need to change the realmlist (see step 3).

Feenix is a special case: Some downloads provided by Feenix/WoW-One have an corrupted ' wow.exe'. This means, that they changed the way the '.exe' works, so that it will always connect to Feenix.

A solution is to replace the corrupted ' wow.exe' with an uncorrupted one. Rebirth one you can download. You need to replace the old ' wow.exe' in your game folder (e.g. ' C: Program Files(x86) (1.12.1) - Classic Client') with the freshly downloaded one. 5) I have a Unix System, can I still play?

Yes, both MacOS and many Linux distributions support WoW 1.12.1 in a very good fashion. A well written guide for Linux can be found in the by ozzky. A Mac client can be downloaded. 6) For some reason, I can't play. What can I do?

Please check if the server is up. Also, read and post your questions Sergeant.

Reference: Just for reference in case people want to see what was around in Vanilla and what was not. A lot of people are asking to start at 1.12 because it was the last major update to Vanilla before TBC, and includes things like AV, WSG and AB that were not actually in the initial release version of WoW. They came in 1.5, and later Personally, I agree with settling on 1.12. It is the version that all the popular (illegal) private servers are running, and has had all the bug fixes applied prior to TBC.

Anything after patch 1.12.2, and you weren't playing Vanilla WoW. 06:58 PMPosted by Reference: Just for reference in case people want to see what was around in Vanilla and what was not. Anything after patch 1.12.2, and you weren't playing Vanilla WoW. Shrug, I personally don't see 1.12.2 as 'Vanilla WoW' at least how I played through it. Raids like MC/BWL wouldn't be even remotely as challenging as when I was going through it due to talent/threat/nerf changes. Look at it like this, if something came in 1.12 then it was only in for a very short time during the overall classic lifespan. 07:00 PMPosted by I disagree with starting at 1.12.

I would like to see Blizzard start at 1.1 with a known and communicated schedule of the patches. I leave it to Blizzard as to handle they handle very specific bugs/exploits. When people are talking about starting at 1.12, they are talking only about the class designs. Not about the content patches. 1.12 tuning does have some advantages, and some disadvantage to raid DPS, primarily by means of more DPS by double the number of debuff slots and increased threat by the tanks. Threat is the throttle for raid DPS, the encounters were designed around certain DPS values based on threat generation of their time period.

These values changed over time with a few patches; addressing this issue is key and very important. 09:32 PMPosted by When people are talking about starting at 1.12, they are talking only about the class designs. Not about the content patches.

I am fully aware what people are talking about when they want to start with 1.12. I am aware that there are class design changes from 1.1 to 1.12. I disagree with that approach. I am only in favor of starting at 1.1 (warts and all) and progressing from there. Everything will work it's way out by patch 1.11 or 1.12 anyway, the only difference is we will have been playing the whole time. 07:00 PMPosted by I disagree with starting at 1.12. I leave it to Blizzard as to handle they handle very specific bugs/exploits. I think realistically though it would probably be a whole lot more effort to progress through patches, some patches fixed bugs, some patches introduced bugs etc. I'm no blizz developer but that method would likely involve every patch needing to be reverse engineered to be compatible with their new updated framework.

I think they'll probably just go the private server route, set it in 1.12.1 and just have a bunch of 'toggle' switches to simulate progression. However if they do just base the game off1.12.1; I hope they'll slightly buff early raids like MC & Ony because MC was probably a lot harder in patch 1.4 than it was in 1.12.1. 10:58 PMPosted by I think 1.11 after the first round of talent revamps and Naxx are the high point for classic. It's true that 1.12 came out not that long after 1.11, but 1.11 simply represents the end of a round of rebalancing that had started much much earlier and represents the peak of classic raiding, and passably polished at that point. 1.12 was just a short lived transitional period between vanilla and wow. It is arguably the least vanilla of all the patches. 1.12 wasn't the BC pre-patch, 1.11 wasn't really the end of rebalancing.

1.12 had changes to haste/slow/threat, rogue talent overhaul, changes to other classes. 09:38 PMPosted by I am only in favor of starting at 1.1 (warts and all) and progressing from there. Everything will work it's way out by patch 1.11 or 1.12 anyway, the only difference is we will have been playing the whole time. I get it, and I understand the love you have for it I do too.

However you're asking blizzard to build 38 some odd different versions of WoW instead of 5 or 6 depending on how now bug issues turn out. And I understand how much you love the game. I respect your opinions/viewpoints and your arguments in favor of those. Yes, I am asking for more builds.

Realistically those blueprints are known. It is surely a development issue, but it is also a devops/prodops issue as well.

Patch

In the last 12 years the tools for devops/prodops automation has grown exponentially. I am fully aware that Blizzard will most likely take a one and done 1.12-ish approach or a group patch approach. But until then I continue to advocate for what I would like to see. 07:01 PMPosted by I am fairly certain it will be progressive, sticking on 1 patch forever wouldn't be an authentic blizzard-level vanilla experience There's a difference. They can start on patch 1.12 systems (talent trees, bug fixes), but have periodic content releases. They should be gating Content to us over time, not things like bug fixes and other Vanilla QOL changes.

Pbx install unistim protocol. It's going to be so confusing if one week the Auction Houses are separate, and then the next week they're unified, etc. Not to mention the interface/options have changed a lot in 1.1 to 1.12, if my actionbars and interface keep changing that would be annoying as well. Whichever patch they settle on starting us with - it should have interface, talents, and Vanilla bug fixes settled. Then we simply receive access to content over time.
