I posted this question on the Asterisk forum just in case if it is an Asterisk problem. I am using an AsteriskNow system that comes with FreePBX (which is why I also posted the question on here). Anyway, So far I am able to call any of the extensions internally. For some reason, even though I see that Google Voice motif is clearly working when I call from a phone like my cell to google voice number (which gets me to IVR and when I dial extension), I can’t dial from any of the Nortel i2004 phones to an external number.
After I dial it, it wouldn’t even process a call and just hangs after the dialtone. Also, I can’t even use feature codes like.97 or.98 for voicemail even when enabled. I checked the UNISTIM status when doing asterisk -r and the phones are registered in the system a ok. Is there any thing else I need to do to get them to use feature codes or outbound calls? Nortel Voip Pbx
I don’t know if this would help, but I did do a asterisk -rvvv and this is what I got when I dialed.97 attempt.
Guys, We are currently in the process of rebuilding our system to verify this - but we believe there is an issue with Unistim (Nortel phones i2004) and FreePBX 2.7. With Asterisk 1.6.2 DND is not functioning - the phones are ignoring it and just ringing, nor are phones going to voicemail, either using the system default timeout or when on DND. The only time they will go to Voicemail is if they are not plugged in! Be careful if you have UNISTIM doing this upgrade - we recently did the latest round of module updates, however we have rolled back to our previous set of disks and they also have the same issue - we believe these features were working previously. Will advise further once we have a basic system set back up for testing Craig.
Further update on this OK we have done another clean install ks16alt install which gives 2.5.2.2 of Freepbx and Asterisk 1.6.2.6 and Centos 5.2 We can confirm that neither DND and Voicemail work on the Unistim phones with this Config. We believe this is an issue with the UNISTIM as delivered with 1.6 of Asterisk and we had this working previously with 1.4. We are waiting on the author of the UNISTIM protocol to advise further. In the meantime we will uninstall the Asterisk engine itself on this test box and recompile 1.6.0 of asterisk and see if we can get that to work Craig.

Ok more findings on this We have done the following testing and confirmed the the problem is with a weird combination of phones and versions. There are two types of Nortel I2004 - Black and Violet. We have tested (this morning) both Voicemail and DND on Asterisk 1.4.21.2 (UNISTIM from ) and Asterisk 1.6.2.0 (UNISTIM built in) - see results below.
It appears that on 1.4 - all works ok except for calls to a black i2004 - where going to VM after 15 seconds and DND fail. On 1.6 all (violet and black) fail. Upon looking at the logs - in the calls that fail to work as desired - it appears that UNISTIM is making a direct connection as it doesn't seem to check the destination status like it does on a calls that works.
